Here, you see an old stuffed man. He currently resides on our neighbor’s roof. This character symbolizes 2007 and tomorrow night he will be set aflame and destroyed…and if we know anything about Oaxacans, it’s that they love shooting off fireworks, so most likely a few firecrackers will be put in his beard…and a bottle rocket or two stuck in his pant legs.

Awesome! I wish we could see such displays in Berkeley. My neighbor has a huge inflatable Sponge-Bob-Square-Pants in her yard dressed like Santa. Maybe I could set that on fire. :)
Good idea, except the toxic chemicals released by a burning sponge might raise a few eyebrows in Berkeley...not here, of course.
I'm dying to know what the celebration was like! Sad we missed it.
