Uniforms Have Arrived

Last night after baseball practice, we were told to show up at the Uniform Factory. We did so, descending on the place with the rest of the team. We collected the uniforms for the Dragones, made sure sizes, names and numbers were all correct, then took them home. Though Gabe did not have to be dressed and ready until 11:00 AM, he came downstairs this morning wearing his new duds at 7:30 AM. It’s a beautiful thing, a brand new uniform. Here’s Gabe at bat and the team...They’ll never look this clean again. Also, a photo of Gabe and Pedro Luis...his best friend in Oaxaca and Dragones team mate. They warm the bench together sometimes...there's nothing quite as bonding as that.

Go Dragones! --R

P.S. Do Spanish speakers exhort their teams to "go" or to some other action or state of being?

We are learning chants, baseball lingo and all sorts of parental, emotional vocabulary in Spanish as we sit behind the plate and watch the drama unfold.

What you would say in lieu of Go Dragones!...is probably...

Vamos Dragones! Literally translated, Lets go, Dragons!

Gabe, sorry to embarass you but you are one handsome little man. (how do you say that in spanish?) Stefano guessed 'guapo'.

How are the parents at their children's sporting events there? Are they as loud and obnoxious as we are here? Also, I've noticed at our soccer games that some parents literally coach their individual child throughout the whole game. Do they do that there?

One dad, in particular coaches everyone from the bleachers...he also comes to every practice and helps out. I feel sorry for his son, who is probably the best player on the team. He gets the bulk of his dad's criticism.

So, yes. Parents are loud, mostly speaking encouraging words, though they do get frustrated and yell for their kids to "wake up", "look alive", and "concentrate".

They are no so different than we are.

Guapo is the word and Gabe has a bit of an idea that he is guapo, but mostly he happily ignores any attention that comes at him in this way.
